March Enterprise Evening in Toowoomba
We invite you to our next Enterprise Evening in Toowoomba on Thursday 17 March to hear directly from BE Power, the developer of the proposed Toowoomba Pumped Storage Project, known as the ‘Big-T’.
Big-T is a 400MW x 10-hour (providing a storage capacity of 4,000MWh) grid connected, pumped hydro storage project. Big-T connects the Cressbrook Reservoir near Crows Nest to a private storage above and to the north of the reservoir.
Big-T is situated in the Queensland Southern Renewable Energy Zone. Large capacity medium-term electricity storage projects are a key component of stabilising the electricity grid and are critical enabler of the development of further wind and solar renewable energy projects.
Big-T is a cost effective pumped hydro energy storage system, and will require final approval by the Toowoomba Regional Council (via the New Energy Generation Tender), the Federal Government UNGI (Underwriting New Generation Investment) program, and the Queensland State Government. The Project is currently being evaluated by Toowoomba Regional Council under a multi-stage procurement process which requires BE Power to meet specific evaluation criteria and certain milestones which include requisite approvals from various levels of government for a project of this type and scale.
The total development cost of Big-T, including the grid connection, is estimated to be in excess of $1 billion. The construction timeframe is 3 years in duration, including the construction of the upper storage, underground pumping, and electrical infrastructure, connecting underground tunnels/pipes, as well as road and infrastructure upgrades.
A significant proportion of Big-T development capital is local content.
On the night attendees will hear directly from Scott Walkem, Managing Director of BE Power to introduce the company, Big-T, and discuss general information relating to the proposed project and pumped hydro projects generally, including why the Toowoomba region provides the optimal location for this project.
Come and hear why this project can be an exciting addition enabling more diverse energy production in our region.
