TSBE: Calling regional businesses and consumers

Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) is once again calling on businesses and consumers in the Toowoomba and Surat Basin region to have their say in the organisation’s Business and Consumer Confidence Surveys.

Now in their second year, the semi-annual business and consumer confidence surveys regularly attract hundreds of respondents from across the region and provide an important indication of business conditions and consumer perceptions of the current economic climate.

“The business confidence survey allows us to establish business conditions and provide a real-time indication of where our region’s economy and activity is at,” TSBE chief executive officer Dr Ben Lyons said.

“As a region we faced some challenges in 2015, in particular with the slowing down in the resource sector.

“However, we also experienced some major milestones, including the first international freight flight from Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport filled with our regional produce bound for Hong Kong – so it will be interesting to see six months on from the last report (October), how our region’s businesses are travelling.”

Dr Lyons said that conversely, the consumer confidence survey was a good barometer for businesses wanting an insight into how our regional consumers are evaluating the regions short and medium term future.

“As we head into 2016, it is important to have an understanding of where our regional consumers’ feelings toward the current economic and business climate are at and what this might mean for local businesses,” Dr Lyons said.

The survey gauges insights from businesses and individuals from Toowoomba to Dalby, Roma, Chinchilla, Wandoan and Miles.

“I strongly urge businesses and consumers in the region wanting to contribute to have their say on how they think the region is progressing and help us better understand our economic position,” Dr Lyons said.

The five-minute survey will close Thursday 31 March, and all participants for the business confidence and consumer confidence surveys will go in the running to win return flights for two from Toowoomba to Melbourne with Airnorth.

The surveys are supported by TSBE Platinum Member and leading Toowoomba accounting firm Power Tynan.
