Highfields developments forge ahead
With many projects approved and currently under construction in Highfields, the area is proving a hub of major development.
One of the local contractors Newlands Group have been successfully heading up a number of the Highfields projects.
Newlands recently completed the base build of the 500 square metre $2.6 million Highfields Medical Centre Queensland X-Ray facility, marking a first for the Highfields community.
The integrated fit-out is scheduled to commence in July.
Newlands General Manager for Commercial, Danny Charlesworth, said the group has recently been awarded another large development that will bring some excitement to the Highfields community.
“We were proud to be awarded the construction of the new Highfields Aldi store along Highfields Road, with the proposed development including intersection upgrade on Highfields Road, retail space and a car park said Mr Charlesworth.
“As we see developments continuing to forge ahead, it gives businesses like ours the opportunity to have a strong workbook and ultimately keep people in jobs. This is what people are relying on at this time.”
There is a lot of activity in the property development sector, with the ongoing works at the Avenues Estate and Gem Life retirement resort.
These are major projects, together creating more than 750 homes.
The Avenues of Highfields masterplan include residential subdivision delivered in multiple stages, while Gemlife Highfields is planned as a multi-stage residential and aged care support, including a manager’s residence, caravan, compounds, club houses, meeting rooms, community rooms, halls and, activity rooms.
There is also a multi-million dollar expansion of a retirement village in Highfields on site at Carinity Brownesholme that will include a further 96 beds at the aged care facility and further stages proposed to construct 84 additional units.
There have been other recently completed projects in Highfields including the police station along the New England Highway, with the fuel station along Highfields Road still under construction.
Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) Energy and Infrastructure General Manager, Lance MacManus, said the projects and construction completed shows major potential for the area and region.
“This incredible range of major projects in Highfields shows confidence in the economy.”
“Highfields was under the spotlight in our latest Development Status Report, home to more than $400 million projects underway or approved, with many others proposed,” said Mr MacManus.
