Stanbroke scores trifecta in Beef Battle extravaganza

Stanbroke has been crowned the 2022 Darling Downs Best Beef Brand at the fifth annual Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) Beef Battle held last night – scoring their third consecutive win in the tightly fought competition.

The best steaks of eights of the region’s top beef producers were served to 400 lucky diners at the Toowoomba Turf Club each of whom rated the meat in terms of flavour, flavour intensity, tenderness, juiciness and overall liking.

The vote of the diners – done via an app developed by iTrazo - constituted 50% of the final score, with the remaining 50% made up of a vote by six industry experts.

Chris Woolhouse of Stanbroke said the result was “very, very exciting”.

“This is such a sensational competition, and it is wonderful to win in terms of promoting a local business and building brand recognition,” he said.

“We were pretty nervous about whether we could take out the trifecta, but the win is testament to the hard work of all our staff.”

The other seven competitors in the Beef Battle were Rangers Valley, Stockyard, JBS, Mort and Co, The Grove Premium Australian Wagyu, Nap Co, and NH Foods.

Scores were very tight on the evening, with only a few points separating Stanbroke from second-place getter Rangers Valley, and the other producers.

However the genuine camaraderie between the producers at the event was evident.

“The Beef Battle really brings the industry together, and they are all very supportive of each other,” TSBE Food Leaders Australia (FLA) General Manager Justin Heaven said.

“TSBE is very proud to be involved in this event.”

Ali Davenport, TSBE CEO agreed.

“The Beef Battle is important to our region, and provides an opportunity to showcase the amazing beef we have in the region,” she said.

“Our event is testament to our region’s stellar agriculture industry and the fantastic producers that operate within it.”

Executive chef of Meat and Livestock Australia Sam Burke travelled to Toowoomba for the event, and oversaw the cooking of the steaks at the Beef Battle, along with Turf Club head chef Olaf Pfeiffer.

While in Toowoomba, Mr Burke also conducted a master class at the Toowoomba Tafe college, and chaired an industry showcase with local producers.
