TSBE Welcomes New Chairman

After almost ten years with TSBE, Chairman Shane Charles has decided to step down from the role at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October.

Shane was the inaugural CEO of TSBE, became Executive Chairman when John Wagner left the position in 2014 and then became Chairman three years ago.

During that time, he has had an enormous impact upon TSBE.

Shane has long been a community leader, advocating for infrastructure development and economic growth in the Toowoomba and Surat Basin region.

He has left a wonderful legacy with the work he undertook to make TSBE what it is today. He has been an instrumental part of the economic powerhouse that the region has become over the past 10 years.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Shane for all the work he has done to promote this region.

He set a really strong foundation for the organisation, and TSBE would not be where it is today without his expertise, relationship-building and sheer hard work.

Personally, he has been a wonderful mentor and I cannot thank him enough for his support and guidance.

I would also like to announce that the TSBE Board has agreed unanimously that Prof Hon. John McVeigh would be ideal to take over the Chairman’s role at the October AGM.

John, the former Member for Groom, has worked across all levels of government and is now the Executive Director for the Institute for Resilient Regions within the University of Southern Queensland (USQ).

He is a former Minister for Agriculture in Queensland, was Federal Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government, and enjoyed a 20 year agribusiness career prior to public office.

He has been a Director on the TSBE Board during the last 12 months.

His experience and the networks that he has developed from a government and industry perspective will be invaluable as he takes over the Chairman’s role within TSBE.

John was instrumental in leading the advocacy for the development of TSBE whilst representing Toowoomba Regional Council on the Economic Development Advisory Board, a forerunner to what is now known as TSBE.

I would like to welcome John as TSBE’s Chairman after the AGM in October and look forward to working with him to continue to grow opportunities in the region.
