What a great night to see 300 business leaders come together to celebrate the region’s key energy sector players and recognise the economic, social, and environmental contributions they make in our region.
The Surat Basin Energy Awards hosted by Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) were held in Dalby on Thursday night, May 11.
As the region continues toward attaining the reputation as the Energy Capital of Australia, recognising the businesses and people who are electrifying our energy producing industries is timelier than ever.
TSBE identified 12 categories as major contributing components to the sector’s continued success and received a multitude of high calibre nominations, reflecting the high calibre of work being done in the sector.

TSBE CEO Greg Bowden said as our region diversifies our energy production capabilities which incorporate both traditional and renewable energy sources, an abundance of new innovative projects and practices are coming to light.
“The Surat Basin Energy Awards celebrate the leaders and recognise the diverse range of businesses who are offering our region these plentiful economic and social opportunities, and I sincerely congratulate all finalists and winners,” Mr Bowden said.
“Since the previous awards in 2021, we have seen many exciting developments and new industry opportunities in our energy offering such as new wind farms and hydrogen production which are gaining traction and the traditional coal and gas markets remaining steadfast.
All this activity is ensuring our region remains a major player in the national and global energy market.”
Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the region has proven itself as the Energy Capital of Queensland and continues to strive for national recognition.
“With 23 renewable energy projects in the pipeline for the Western Downs Region, they will provide a combined capacity of approximately 5,303 megawatts,” Mayor McVeigh said.
“This event celebrates all involved in these developments highlighting that it truly is the people that make it.”

The next biannual Surat Basin Energy Awards will be held in 2025.
