The Western Downs thrives at the centre of the resource-rich Surat Basin and contributes significantly to the economy in terms of agriculture and both renewable energy & fossil fuel resources production. The resources industry in 2015-2016 contributed $539M in Gross Regional Product in the Western Downs (Queensland Resources Council, 2016).
